Mr. Gibbs is Principal of the Indianapolis based interior design and landscape architecture firm of Jamie Gibbs Associates. The firm, with branch offices in New York, NY, and Amsterdam, NL, specializes in the creation of highly personalized interiors and landscapes. The practice is international in its scope, with clients in all parts of the United States, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean. His interior designs span a wide range of architectural styles and tastes. Mr. Gibbs is also the designer of six signature collections including “The Vintage Collection” for D’Kei Inc., carpets, fabrics, and drapery hardware. He has consulted on product design for over 20 manufacturers.
Mr. Gibbs’ background starts with thirty years as an actively practicing landscape architect and interior designer. He first worked for the State of Indiana, Division of State Parks as the Director of Design. From that position, he became associated with an engineering and design firm, Stoeppelwerth and Associates in Indianapolis. Thirty-five years ago, Mr. Gibbs opened his private practice in New York. Since then, he has become a sought after interior designer, landscape architect and author. His work has been featured in many magazines and newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, House Beautiful, Women’s Day, Traditional Homes, Design Times, Forbes, House and Garden, The Old House Interiors, Garden Design, and Architectural Digest. He has authored two design books. His work has been featured in over 45 hardcover books and hundreds of magazines. Mr. Gibbs was an Adjunct Professor at Parsons School of Design teaching window treatments and textiles. He is now teaching online with Distance Learning and as a guest lecturer for many universities and professional organizations..
Mr. Gibbs attended Purdue and Columbia Universities, where he studied Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Historic Preservation and the Decorative Arts in both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Mr. Gibbs is active in preservation, interior design, and philanthropic institutions. For many years he lectured at trade conferences, design centers, and civic groups such as Decorex, ASID, TEFAF, NeoCon, Heimtextil, Surfaces, Coverings, K-Bis, and The Remodeling Show. Mr. Gibbs sits on the Board of Directors at the Indianapolis Opera Company, The Horticultural Society of the Indianapolis Museum of Art and on the Advisory Bds. of The Fund for Park Avenue and CIVITAS. In 2009, Mr. Gibbs directed the restoration and GREEN renovation of Dulcinea, an historic mansion in Indianapolis. The project attained wide press coverage and has been featured in three hardcover books. In October 2013, Mr. Gibbs received the “Best of Danville” award in interior design. He was also selected to be on the Best of Product judging team for K-BIS and a selection judge for the Wall Street Journal “Dream Home Awards.”
